Contractor agrees to finance Oyo model schools

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi
Work will finally resume at the sites of the Oyo State Model Schools after the contractor handling the project agreed to fund it.

The state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, had begun conversion of six secondary schools to model ones in 2014 but financial constraints put a stop to the project after the foundation was laid.

The schools are Oba-Akinbiyi High School II, Mokola, Ibadan; Ogbomosho High School, Ogbomoso; Abiodun Atiba High School, Oyo; Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun, Ibadan; Baptist High School, Saki; and Obaseeku High School, Eruwa.

The governor said the project was aimed at addressing the infrastructural decay in secondary schools. The project was to have been completed in December 2014.

While reacting to insinuations that the project had been abandoned by his government, Ajimobi told our correspondent in Ibadan that work would resume on the project soon.

He said, "We thought of the project as part of our effort to address challenges in our secondary schools. We did not abandon it. We did not have money to complete the model schools so we had to stop. But thankfully, after discussion with the contractor on how to finance the project, he agreed to come back and do it for us. The contractor has agreed to finance it. So, in a few weeks, work will resume at the sites."
